How Can We Live Life A-New?
Ulysses The Dog is on a new diet that is helping his eyes to glow and his coat to feel soft under my fingers. I am continuing his anti- cancer regimen. He is running and jumping like a pup again.
Yet don't we all feel like a new life has begun? We survived one of the most grueling winters on record. I spent most of it out in icy snowbanks, coaxing dear Ulysses to eat, if even one bite of food--any food would do. When he did eat a quarter of a hot dog, we rejoiced greatly.
Tomaso now has an appetite that reminds me of Ulysses' three months back. Illness and recuperation is one of the great motivators of change. Often we become different Beings as a result of illness and regeneration. These experiences serve as spiritual entry points, as we come to know that we are so much more than physical beings.
I remember visiting Delaney and Jala after Delaney broke his hip in mid-October, 2010. (Delaney is my brother, and Jala is his Life Partner).
Time was nonexistent. I slowly walked with Delaney, as he put one foot in front of the other, holding on to a walker. He was diligent about doing his exercise.
One time he stopped in front of a tree and said, "This is where Myrrah told us she wanted us to help her die." We both wept.
The dogs do tell us when they've had enough. Dying often isn't as easy for the Humans.
But rebirth is what we live today in the here and now, in this present moment! The air cleanses the spirit as well as the body.
Breathe! You are alive!!
Om Peace Amen
