Patience Is Love In Action

Dear God/ess,

One of the greatest acts of patience in my life was and is learning how to play the violin.

When you play this instrument, you can't just race ahead of yourself to the next part of the musical piece, but must stay engulfed within the very note you are playing.

This is, of course a metaphor for life and for living.

Stay engulfed in the Now!

Stop rushing forth to a place that does not exist.

We may find that sometimes we are patient while other times we are not. We may find we are patient in some areas of life but terribly impatient in others.

I was present for the removal of a placenta the other night, and because of the impatience of the one doing the removal, the placenta came out in pieces. One of my nursing colleagues and I often discuss the patience needed to artfully remove a placenta. Often the placenta gently comes out on its own with a push or two from the Mom.

But we are discussing the case of the stubborn placenta here today, and the need of the person responsible for removing it, to exercise if not purposely develop the Art of Patience.

Patience may be a virtue, but not all of us come by it naturally. It's a gift of a meditative life. Slowing down is the key to acquiring patience.

The greatest source of patience is self-love and the nurturing of the Self.

When you feel good about yourself, you are more likely to extend the kindness of patience to others.

The key lies in the slowing down; for happiness, positive thoughts and actions, and the steady feeling of peace borne through patience can only arise in a prayerful and meditative, self-reflective state of mind.

And in the slowing down of the mind, thought processes slow down, our breathing slows down, and we are only then able to live in the present moment.

We are only then able to know what true and simple happiness is--not in the acquisition of more, but in the letting go of everything to Cosmic Consciousness. Patience is an integral part of this process.

And suddenly we're in the flow, and positive living is a direct and effortless by product of this way of life.

Let us remember to also call on unseen forces, who can ease patience into our psyche as a way of life.

Let us remember to practice humility which is patient's love-child.

More on humility tomorrow!!

Om Peace Amen
